Long-, Medium-, and Short-Term Nested Optimized-Scheduling Model for Cascade Hydropower Plants: Development and Practical Application

This paper presents a nested approach for generating long-term, medium-term, and short-term reservoir scheduling models, which is based on the actual needs of operation Three Gorges–Gezhouba (TG-GZB) cascade reservoirs. The has established five-tier optimal model in time interval plan prepared by can be as short 15 min, meeting real-time requirements hydropower station system. study also comparatively comprehensive introduction to all solving algorithms that have ever been adopted multi-time scale coordinated optimized model. Based that, some practical efficient are developed characteristics model, including coupled iterative method alternating reservoirs (CIMAR)—the improved dynamic programming (IDP) algorithm genetic (IGA). In addition, optimized-scheduling solutions were generated each three compared terms their convergence rate, calculation time, electric energy generated, standard deviation algorithm. results Cascade Scheduling Communication System (CSCS) Gorges–Gezhouba, China, includes two interlinked mega-scale projects, show models better efficiency good convergence, more importantly, maximization power generation benefits plants achieved without violating any regulations.
